Help Control Stray Cat Overpopulation

August 28, 2009

Animal overpopulation is a very big problem in this country. This holds true especially for cats. Unlike dogs, cats will freely mate and have somewhat large litters in the wild (the streets). This can escalate very quickly, more so in the warmer months.

If there is a large problem with stray cats a a town or city, animal control will be forced to help remove them from the street. This will unfortunately lead to cat euthanasia. It is a terrible thing to kill an animal for the sole reason that they exist. These animals were once pets that were abandoned by their owns. They committed no crime and did no wrong.

If you are considering making a cat or kitten part of your family, think about adopting a stay before spending money on a pure breed animal. There will be plenty of pet lovers that are interested in a pure breed cat. A homeless cat doesn’t have as many options. Even if you are only looking for a kitten to raise from a young age, they can be found at animal shelters. During the spring and summer there is a huge spike in the number of stray kittens brought to your local pet shelter.
