People Tracking With GPS Technology

November 13, 2009

It’s hard to imagine that we live in the day and age that almost demands that we use GPS Tracking to intrude on a person’s life, but it is indeed the situation in which we find ourselves.

Just a few years ago, such technology was scoffed at by those who decry the “big brother” mentality. And, there is still an element of truth in the argument that begs us to prepare for the illegal use of these devices. But, frankly, the advantages and the good that comes from the use of gps tracking devices outweigh the concerns. Here’s how:

Tracking the Guilty

The biggest problem facing our jail and prisons is the inherent overcrowding. Not only does it create dangerous situations where the prisoner-to-guard ratio is way out of proportion, but it is unhealthy for those who are incarcerated. Overcrowding leads to inmate unrest which increases incidents of violence.

Enter GPS Tracking. Those convicted of lesser offenses should automatically be placed on a home-detention system and monitored with GPS Tracking devices. These units allow these persons to remain in society, but in a restricted and controlled way. They can even be productive by holding down a job and making money to support themselves and their families - something that convicts inside of a prison system can never do.

Tracking the Elderly

With baby-boomers reaching retirement years in droves, GPS Tracking devices exist to help to insure their welfare. Cell phones have their place, but GPS Tracking permeates all situations and provides a signal even when primary power has been cut to the unit. Try that with a cell phone.

Using a GPS Tracking system to monitor movement of those who need it is more humane than many want to admit. Knowing where your parents are during vulnerable times is a great comfort.

Tracking the Young

Child safety is at the forefront of GPS Tracking efforts. The news stories that are prevalent today are causing grave concern for parents as their children move about the day from location to location. This is especially concerning when both parents work and are not able to be with their children as much as they would like. GPS Tracking provides a measure of peace of mind knowing that their children can found if something happens.

Just because these situations are uncomfortable to discuss, does not mean that we should avoid talking about them. GPS Tracking is here to help, not hinder. And the sooner you use them, the more likely your odds of being successful against the “bad” that can happen.
