One of the most overlooked method of computer maintenance is cleaning and optimizing your registry to optimize performance. What most people do not know about the registry is that it contains data of all its programs, including the operating system.

Every time you install a program it creates log entries that contain data for that program. Such as those in the recently used files, the last saved folder, etc. Even Windows Vista uses the registry for the most critical and important system information.

As you use your computer over a period of time your registry entries get clogged if they are not properly removed by the uninstall program. Almost every program uses the registry and when they are uninstalled, some programs tend not to delete the data you have created in the registry. So if you’ve tried everything else from defragmenting the hard drive to getting rid of any potential spyware, malware, viruses. Then your best option is to clean the registry. I have Windows Vista and one day my system was running very slow and my music was playing very choppy with anything I did. It turned out to be rubbish in my registry.

After fixing the errors and restarting the computer, it was good as new again. This is just a small example of how important it is to keep your registry free of clutter and errors.

Now there are registry cleaners available that is compatible with Windows Vista. Of course they are not as many as for Windows XP, however, still can find a reliable program to handle the task properly
